It's Official!
It's official; upon completion of my classes this summer I semester, I will be an official graduate of the MLIS program from the University of South Carolina. It's exciting, stressful, and sad all at the same time. I have no idea what I'll do with myself without having to come home and finish up a project, or view a class, or complete some "required" reading. Maybe I'll be able to do some more "leisurely" reading. Another stressful thing is that I'll have to start looking for a new job. The job I've been in for the past two years has been good but it's definitely not something I want to pursue much longer. So, job hunting, here I come. There's also not an abundance of library careers in the Charleston area and I really want to stay here for the time being. You never know, maybe something I can't pass up will come available elsewhere. I also have to consider my BF. We have to be able to live in the same place and he has only a number of places he can transfer to. He has a great job working for Verizon employed with them for 14 years). He's the bread winner, so I'll go where he wants until I start making the big bucks...muhahahaha! Oh, and the sad part...having to pay back a $40K school loan. GEEZ!!!!!!!!

Quote of the Day
An intellectual is a person who has discovered something more interesting than sex.
-Aldous Huxley
Brave New World is one of the best books I've read. If you haven't, you should check it out!

So Excited
I am so excited! I had a great day yesterday, at of all places, The Watermelon Festival. I ran into my best friend from high school who I hadn't seen in 6 years. We did everything together back in the day. We made asses of ourselves together, were band geeks together, played softball together, cried together, laughted together....Everything we did, we did TOGETHER. Then, my junior year, she decides she wants to graduate early. She left me alone in a high school where I was not happy at. I had no friends, and trust me, it was probably my fault, but I refused to hang out with people who were ignorant, or people who made fun of people on a daily basis. So, she goes off to college and I'm alone my senior year. I can understand how college students don't want to hang out with high schoolers. I understand all too well. We went our different ways but we still talked all the time. I was even in her wedding. People, unfortunately grow apart and loose touch. It's my fault too, I'm not blaming anyone. She's one of the best people I know. She's still married to the same guy, has two beautiful children and she's the same girl I knew and loved. We exchanged numbers and I am NOT going to do the same thing again.

Poor Things
I am and always have been very fond of elephants. I think they're beautiful creatures that are highly intelligent. And of course, they are matriarchal. They live in groups of women while the males usually live a solitary life. I could go on and on about them. They're just amazing.
Now, I am not a big fan of PETA, although I LOVE all animals and would never do anything to hurt any of them. I feel as though their protests are "over the top." But again, this is just my opinion.
I recently watched this. I have never been so angry as I had viewing this video footage. I used to love going to circuses as a child, but now, I feel as though I will never be able to go to a circus again. The treatment of these elephants, along with the other circus animals is deplorable! You can also check out this website. It gives ways to help or petition against this unspeakable cruelty.

Tired
I'm really tired! I'm taking two classes during the month of June so I can graduate in August. I come home from work and go straight to the computer and start on school work. I'm taking 725 Knowledge Management and 753 Reference Seminar. I like both classes, especially the reference seminar. Right now, we're using Second Life Virtual Library that our college has set up. It's very cool and a bit fun if I do say so myself. This class is why I started blogging. We are supposed to be up to date on web 2.0. I hate to admit it, but I'm not as up to date as I want to be. I'm trying really hard though!!!
Another thing we're discussing in 726 are Topic Maps. This website was created by Steve Pepper from Ontopia. Steve Pepper and Lars Garshol, from what I understand, are the Topic Map gurus. I have to say though, "I don't get it." Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I dunno...We're working on a project for an SLM topic map and I have no clue where to begin. If there is anyone out there who could give me some insight, I would be sooooo appreciative.
Anyway, I started this blog wanting to talk about how tired I am and look where I wind up. Oh well, maybe I'm gonna be a real liberrian afterall.

Fear Itself
Will be watching this tonight!
This looks like it should be a really awesome series. I hope it lives up to what it should, especially with the directors and actors that are highlighted.
Just a few:
Brandon Routh
Eric Roberts
Cynthia Watros
Let's keep our fingers crossed!
